Residential Gate Services

Driveway, yard and walk gates for York homeowners: new gates that suit your house and your drive, and repairs that get the gate you already have working again.

Gates for York Homes

A driveway gate is part of the front of your house: the first thing guests and neighbors see, and something you use every day. The right one fits the style of the house, opens the way your drive allows, and works on the coldest morning of the year.

York's housing varies a lot from street to street. Older brick and frame houses in the city and the inner boroughs often have narrow drives, alleys and tight side yards, where a slide gate or a bi-fold gate fits better than a wide swing gate. Newer homes in the surrounding townships tend to have wider, sometimes sloping drives, and many sit in developments with HOA rules about gate height, style and color. Farther out, long rural drives often call for a sturdy gate with a solar opener and a keypad at the road.

What a Gate Does for Your Home

  • Curb appeal: a gate that matches the house finishes the front of the property.
  • Privacy: solid board or panel gates block the view into the drive and the yard.
  • Security: a closed, locked or automatic gate keeps casual visitors and drive-throughs out.
  • Children and pets: a closed yard keeps them away from the street.
  • Convenience: an opener with a remote or keypad means no getting out of the car in the rain or snow.
  • Deliveries: a keypad code or an intercom lets you decide who comes in, even from work.

Residential Gate Styles

Swing gates in metal and wood, from open pickets that show off the house to solid boarded leaves for privacy. The same styles are available as slide gates where the drive needs one.

What Affects Your Gate Price

Every residential gate is priced for the site. These are the things that move the number most:

  • Width of the opening: a wider gate needs more material, stronger posts and often a second leaf.
  • Material: steel, aluminum, wood and vinyl differ in cost, weight and upkeep.
  • Gate type: a cantilever slide gate or a bi-fold gate costs more than a single swing gate of the same width.
  • Posts and footings: new posts in concrete, brick or stone piers, or reusing posts that are already sound.
  • The slope of the drive: rising hinges, a cantilever gate or regrading may be needed.
  • Automation: the opener, battery backup and distance to power.
  • Access controls: remotes, a keypad, an intercom or a phone controller.
  • Decorative details: arched tops, finials, scrolls and custom colors.

A Residential Job, Start to Finish

Konner Larson works directly with homeowners to schedule each visit and go over what the job needs. On the first visit we look at the opening, the posts, the slope and where power could come from, and listen to how you use the drive. You get the price before any work starts. On installation day the posts go in first; heavy gates are hung once the concrete has cured. If the gate is automatic, the last step is setting up the opener and safety sensors and showing everyone in the house how to use the remotes, the keypad and the manual release.

Homeowner Questions

What's the average cost for a residential driveway gate?

There is no honest single number: a manual wood gate on existing posts and an automatic steel slide gate on a sloped drive sit far apart. Width, material, the type of gate, the posts and footings, an opener and its power, and the access controls are what set the price. Tell us what you have in mind and we give you the price for your drive before any work starts. If a budget matters, say so up front and we suggest where to save without giving up what matters to you.

Will a gate increase my home's value?

We cannot promise that, and no one honestly can; it depends on the neighborhood and the buyer. What a well-built gate does do is improve curb appeal, add privacy, keep children and pets in, and make the property feel more secure, and many buyers notice those things. A gate in poor repair has the opposite effect, so keeping an existing gate working matters too.

Do you offer financing?

Ask Konner when you go over the estimate; he will tell you plainly what payment arrangements are possible for your job. We do not advertise financing terms on this website.
